Yesterday, I was having a conversation at work with a Pantheist (which is basically the belief that God is in everything and everything is in God…) and he said something that was so profound that I seriously had to share it with you guys. I hope that this helps all of you who have been struggling with this question, I know it helped me….and it helped someone else I shared it with too. He said:
“Okay, so this is what I have decided about the problem of evil, because it used to bother me a lot. I have decided that since God is so infinitely infinite [so vastly huge] that all possibilities must exist.”
I then asked him if he believed that there was a little bad in God (kinda like the ying yang idea) and he said this:
“No, I think that there are two ways of looking at evil. Either we have made up evil simply because our minds need so be able to compare. So we made up good and evil, physical and spiritual, light and dark. Or evil is simply the absence of good.”
And if you think about light and dark, which is the prominent analogy used to talk about God and satan, which makes it even easier to understand. Darkness is only the absence of light. Just as evil is only the absence of good. And evil exists not because God created it or desires it but because He is so infinite that all possibilities must exist.
Amazing what you can learn from nonChristians if you shut your mouth and listen. You should try it sometime. I love to find wisdom and truth in places that one wouldn’t even think to look for them in.
Thinking on a Higher Note,

There is a verse I WILL be looking for that talks about how God made good AND evil. I’ll find it for you… I think it’s in Isaiah.

Is 45:7 (NIV) I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.
(NLT) I am the one who creates the light and makes the darkness. I am the one who sends good times and bad times. I, the LORD, am the one who does these things.
There’s the verse I said I would find for ya. Evil is found in the darkness and God created darkness. A net friend from SO long ago pointed this out to me and I was absolutely mortified by it. It’s also in these hands of good and evil, light and darkness that we find the tastiest blessing and the bitterest sorrow. I’m not saying that there is evil IN God, but I am saying that he did create it SO THAT (and this is just a thot) He could prove His mercy and reign in true judgement. How else could I know of His mercy on me unless I had sinned and He didn’t punish me? ::pausing in thot:: Hey! That sounds like a GREAT SONG! *winking and humming*
Hope all went smoothly this weekend! I LOVE YOU!
